Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Laura Sullivan was born and lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine is an ex-backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. When she was 5 years old, her father landed in the role of curator at The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the landmark historical building. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan played the contralto for the choir for children and later just a few years later, she sang as an adult in the choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music until he was a teenager. "I began singing in solos at church and a person was urging me to sign up to gospel records at the age of 11. However, I was not ready to take that step," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition that was open to kids in cities. The contest gave me the chance to perform the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. My audience was very welcoming." Stevie Wonder sang her part during his 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan was 15 when she at the time, signed her first contract with Jive Records. She recorded an entire album. But the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. Missy Elliott was the producer for several tracks that were on her debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers" which is a buzz song produced by Timbaland composed by Elliott.
